Make sure you keep an eye out because Pikachu has found his way into our hearts and I think he's bound to show up again soon!

![]() So we have a new friend at the library ... Pikachu! He likes to help out at a lot of library things, including storytime sometimes! Today we had one of the dental hygienists and Pockets the kangaroo come for a visit and talk about how important it is to brush and floss your teeth. Pikachu had to get in the action and came for a visit to brush his teeth too. We tried to explain to him that his tooth brush was a little too big for him, but he decided he would figure out a way to get it into his mouth. Make sure you keep an eye out because Pikachu has found his way into our hearts and I think he's bound to show up again soon!

![]() She is still in my thoughts, but this beautiful event makes it real again. The event is not at Chili Library, but at Irondequoit Library, but still I thought I should make people aware since without her there would be no Teen Book Festival. The Teen Book Festival changed many peoples' lives, including people in Chili, so I thought I should let you know.
This was the first year that I got to be in the float and not be a walker. I think everyone was afraid of my bright red face that I was ready to pass out. Even so, it was totally worth it because there were a lot of awesome faces that I recognized and that made me happy. :)
Thanks to those of you who voted, we will have a new home! I am so excited because there will be so much more space to hang out, play and for us to have events. Not only that, there will be more space for books! We have to get rid of books so much that it hurts, but because we don't have the space that's what we have to do.
I have already been thinking of all the things we need to do:
So I have been training for a 5k (3.1 miles) for about seven weeks now. It is definitely hard to tell, but I have. There are a ton of different smart phone apps that you can use that help with training and I have been using one and puffing along.
I just thought I would mention this because I kept starting and stopping and I was determined that I would get through it at some point, because along with the blog, running was my other new years resolution. I always give up on new years resolutions, and we are about at the half point of the year, and so far I have not given up on any of them! Its been interesting because both new years resolutions have been difficult, and there have been stumbling blocks, but so far I've kept going. Some of my stumbling blocks for writing are not knowing what to write, not having time to write and just lack of interest. Some of my stumbling blocks for running, are having no energy, having no time and having a lack of interest ... hmmm. Noticing a similarity there. What have your problems been with keeping up with your resolutions? Anyone even make one? ![]() I'm reading: "Decluttering at the Speed of Life: Winning Your Never-Ending Battle with Stuff" by Dana K. White right now. Boy. It is hard work being an adult. I started decluttering my office desk and wow. Its amazing how much stuff you can end up with on even your desk. So far, I'm really enjoying the book. It doesn't have any pictures (at least the ebook version I'm reading doesn't), so that I don't have to look at pictures and get depressed at how perfect her house is and how perfect her closets are. Right now I'm reading about donating over trying to sell your stuff. Its extremely hard for me. I think about all the money that I spent purchasing my items, but it is taking up "valuable space" in my house, which is more important than the $10 I could get from my kids' duplos. It gives me heart palpitations, but it is honest. So now I have to try really hard to move forward. Its sort of funny because I don't have any trouble with donating clothes. In fact I donated a bag of clothes that was bigger than my nine-year-old daughter yesterday and I didn't bat an eye. Weird. Anyone else have a hard time decluttering? I'm posting today for my missed post last Thursday since I was home recovering from TBF madness. :) BTW ... That cup was one of the fabulous things that you could purchase, and if you had, you would have been able to catch up with me, since I was at the merchandise table all day.
One of the few downfalls to being on the committee is that you don't really get to "hang out" and check out the authors' presentations. I would have liked to, but seeing everyone's enthusiastic faces was worth it in the end. Well, see you in a few days when I post on my official Thursday time. :)
All the planning and working throughout the year has made it to then end. It all became more real when I picked up Brendan Kiely at the airport. He was super awesome and easy to talk to. Plus, he has family in Rochester. Even more awesome? His Mom went to Nazareth Academy, which is where I went to high school! Totally got me all spiked and ready to go. Which is good, because today and tomorrow its all about setting up Nazareth College. Totally exhausting, but also totally exhilarating. Get a little coffee and I am READY! I hope to see you all there!
MORE EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!!! No. You do not call them naughty. :)
We've been thinking of doing programs specifically for 8-12 year olds and we realized that they aren't tweens, they aren't teens ... what are they? Everyone has a "code name". We have preschoolers and toddlers. Tweens and teens. But what are these kids? Just kids? That's no fun! We want a fun name for them too! What kind of name should we give them (that's appropriate of course) that would represent these kids? Help us! ![]() Somehow I managed to go a whole month without posting! ARGH. I want at least one of my resolutions to go on! My jogging resolution has fallen apart, but I have not yet given up. The winter is a horrible time to be a new year. I think we should make new year's resolutions when its spring (like real spring, not "my so called spring") because many of the things people make resolutions on NEED good weather. Things like cleaning, organizing, exercising, to name a few. Winter snow is not a great way to start those resolutions. (^^^Picture above of me actually getting to sit for a moment on our trip.) Anyways, I was away for one national conference, then a trip to Disney World (which was so busy during spring break) and finally a state conference once I got back from my vacation. PHEW! So much to take on so quickly, but so much fun and learning (I learned in Disney that I have some pretty awesome kids that I don't have to argue with too much)! So one of my many favorite things that I learned was how to create easy and cheap engineering kits that we could let people check out and play with at home. It might take some time to get them started, but I think it could definitely be a fun addition to our Thursday Explore Your Imagination programs. I also went to a program called Ditching Dewey, where they got rid of the number system that we all know and moved onto a new type of number/color system that makes sense to real people. That would be a HUGE time commitment, but I think a real useful one, because it would be way easier for you guys to find books. So what do you guys think? Time to ditch dewey? :) |
